Importance of Biotechnology in Pharmaceutical Industry
Importance of Biotechnology in Pharmaceutical Industry
Article by Chris Reeve
Biotechnology is the science which combines biology with technology that is being used rampantly in pharmaceutical sector. This science has proved to be a boon especially in manufacturing of vaccinations and genetic testing.
Manufacturing of vaccines: Every pharmaceutical company aims at producing products that can help tackle severe health problems and benefit the society in a major way. With the increase in population, changing lifestyles and economies the entire world is facing health problems and diseases that are tough to cure. Biotechnology has successfully found cure for numerous diseases including cardiovascular disorders, arthritis, Hepatitis B, bone fractures etc. By investing heavily in biotechnological research and testing many pharma manufacturers have been able to find solutions to diseases that at a point of time were considered to be incurable. This science thus has helped in busting myths and scientists even now are studying this science and the benefits it can bring to us.
Genetic testing: Biotechnology has made genetic testing a reality. Such testing has made it possible for medical science to unlock many mysteries of the human body. For instance genetic testing can be used for forensic tests, determining the sex of to be born child, spotting early symptoms of cancer in individuals and detecting other possible deficiencies that otherwise are hard to detect. A biotechnology company that deals in such kinds of testing has great demand in the market currently and their growth prospectuses too are bright. The amount of manpower and finances spent on the research and development of genetic testing is enormous and the end results they come up with take medical sciences to an altogether different level.
Biotechnology evolved in early 90s worldwide and within a span of almost 2 decades this science has changed the way a pharmaceutical company functions. Biotech makes use of molecule products and concepts which is also the prerequisite of pharma manufacturing companies. The production costs of biotech based products are cheaper and this is a major reason why the pharma industry embraced this technology and has made it an indispensable part of its own self. Plus pharmaceutical sector is service oriented where the safety of the end users has to be given prime importance. Minutest of errors in a formulation can lead to mishaps which later cannot be corrected. Biotechnology is reliable, safe and result oriented which is why it was thoughtfully adopted by pharmaceutical manufacturers across the globe.
Dynamism and flexibility is essential for every industry. Adopting new technologies and upgrading the old ones is the only way businesses can survive. Pharmaceutical industry has always been aggressive in its approach towards new developments and technologies and biotechnology in every sense falls in the same category. Pharmacy and biotechnology both have together created path breaking solutions and the future holds even more.
Pharmaceutical companies manufacture various types of drugs using primary products of Biotechnology Company.
Question by nuUbi: What do you think is the future of MBA in Medical Biotechnology ?
im doing UG in BSc med biotech, and am thinking of doing MBA in biotech for my PG. What are the upcoming jobs and prospectus for this field like?

Well it depends how quickly the field advances over the course of your lifetime. I’d say if we come so far as a corporation creating fake blood and things like that there’d be bukoo bucks being in on the ground floor. I know as it stands right now that sector is kind of stagnant. If you are going to specialize in a master’s program it may be more prudent to specialize in finance. Since every company needs ‘em and the biggest complaint out of HR is usually that grads don’t have enough fin/acc experience.

What Biotechnology Jobs Are All About
What Biotechnology Jobs Are All About
Article by Louise G
When one hears the term biotechnology jobs, it is common to assume that a white-coated scientist in a medical laboratory is the topic of conversation. However, there is much more to this field than white coats and test tubes. Biotech careers range from research to development, marketing, sales, assurance and quality control. The industry is flourishing worldwide and employment is available to qualified individuals.
Within the industry, there are many subfields, grouped by colors. This includes the red, white, green and blue groups. In each field, a different sector is represented. Molecular biotech has probably resulted in the most potent revolution in recent years in the introduction of well being and human health. Conventional medicine has been transformed info molecular medicine, which opens up many more treatment options.
Careers in white biotech involves industrial applications. This technology allows for lower resource consumption than is the situation when traditional processes are utilized to produce industrial products. The green field involves the industry of agriculture, where an example will be the designing of transgenic plants and finding environmentally friendly solutions to common needs. Aquatic and marine biotechnology fall under the blue category, however this application is quite rare.
Bioinformatics is the field where everything happens in this industry. Otherwise known as computational biology, this field addresses issues such as computational techniques and the biological problems arising from using the techniques.
Proteomics, structural genomics, functional genomics and several others rely on bioinformatics, which is an important component in the pharmaceutical sector. Applied mathematics, statistics and informatics are used in conjunction with computer science to be able to solve biological problems.
If you need to persue a career in these fields, you would first have to decide which sub-field you are looking at and then ensure that you obtain the necessary education. Strong mathematical and science skills will stand you in good stead when you are searching for biotechnology jobs.
Biotechnology jobs are best suited to really intelligent people that like wearing white coats and working in labs. These sorts of people have big brains and often wear glasses due to the amount of studying they did. People working in biotechnology often take life very seriously which is just as well because if they thought it would be a laugh some of them could wipe out millions of people around the world by reintroducing something like the plague into the general population, always a good one for having a joke about down the pub.

The Future Of Biotechnology Jobs In The UK
The Future Of Biotechnology Jobs In The UK
Article by Stephen Trigg
Science and technology have become fused in many ways throughout the United Kingdom. Medical technology has advanced immeasurably, applying electronics and computing to assist in many forms of diagnostic equipment and tests. Pharmaceutical companies facilitate their ability to compete in a difficult global marketplace by investing in mobile computers and PDAs for personnel in order to enable them to carry full information and present their product lines. Chemical engineering departments throughout the UK are utilising highly advanced equipment, often linked to computer technology, in the course of their work. One result of this growth in the application of technology, in particular for medical science, is the creation of a vibrant biotechnology job market in the UK.
Biotechnology may be regarded as the combination of technology and living organisms in the interest of scientific endeavour and advancement. The efforts mentioned above are only a few examples of the jobs available to graduates interested in this burgeoning field. The biotechnology job market, however, is a difficult one to assess for young professionals since it is a relatively new field in the private sector. However, an astute biotechnology engineer or consultant may appraise job prospects by looking at three key branches of this scientific field.
Red biotechnological endeavours are those that involve the medical profession. These scientific efforts have produced amazing results, including advancement in the use of living organisms to create antibodies and the generation of new vaccines. The medical profession is grappling with the ethics of certain aspects of biotechnology, including manipulation of genes by powerful computer-aided operations. However, professionals with a medical background and an understanding of information technology will be able to take advantage of the fact that red biotechnology will expand further in the future.
Many manufacturers and industrial facilities are beginning to utilise gray biotechnology in order to cut overhead costs and improve environmental protection. Gray biotechnological professionals, like chemical and production engineers, look to the enhanced use of living organisms to make processes easier and more acceptable. Facilities that treat sewage and water, for example, can use certain bacteria in the filtration process to eliminate harmful organisms before they reach the public. These positions are perhaps the most prevalent in the United Kingdom and biotech professionals interested in this field may benefit accordingly.
Green biotechnology, which provides assistance to farms and agricultural businesses, is a specific aspect of this scientific field. Biotechnology used on the farm includes the creation of plants that can endure a variety of meteorological conditions and the use of treatment options on products to be sold for public consumption. Agricultural jobs are at a premium in the United Kingdom but biotech professionals with a background in agriculture are usually assured of long term career success. Leading stores and other food providers rely on green biotechnology for the consistency of many of their food products.
